Vision

The Emerson office building is a great example of The Burt Group’s versatility and expertise with large projects. Innovation, planning and communication are Emerson’s hallmarks, and the team at The Burt Group were in tune to this from the inception to completion of this project.

The iOps Command Center’s interior design features state-of-the-art equipment throughout the facility. The conference rooms have floor-to-ceiling, high-tech digital screens controlled by wall-based iPads. Everything from the teleconferencing A/V equipment to the lights and HVAC are controlled with this innovative system. Some of the other unique interior elements include ceiling clouds, stone and glass features, and resourced wood.

Challenges

One of the main challenges faced by The Burt Group team was the four and a half month turnaround timeframe they were given for the massive renovation project. The Burt Group leveraged safe, innovative and alternative construction methods in order to finish on-time and on-budget.

Clean air standards for indoor air quality were a top priority during construction, especially with 750 employees operating in the office simultaneously. Precautions including special ventilation systems to minimize dust and debris, along with noise control barriers and an extensive choreographed plan of construction hours, closures and staffing were implemented to reduce the impact of the construction on the Emerson staff.

Another large challenge was the construction of an additional building to connect the two existing structures. The new addition had to be elevated to the existing buildings, which were at a second-floor level, to allow for two common corridors to bind the buildings together as one seamless entity.

Success

After transferring over 750 jobs to the area and planning to add 125 more by the end of 2015, Emerson has quickly become one of the top five employers in Round Rock. The growth and success of companies like Emerson bolster Texas' reputation as a state where people can dream and make big things happen.

Here are two more case studies worth exploring.
