Software design and development studio, Chaotic Moon, is located in a historic building in the heart of downtown Austin. The Burt Group and Sixth River Architects were selected to complete Chaotic Moon’s modern and stylish 20,000-square-foot inner city office.
The Burt Group was tasked with completely transforming a hodgepodge of connected office spaces inside the former Swift, Day and McKean-Eilers buildings. What was once a dark and closed-off environment, these century-old buildings now house over 100 Chaotic Moon employees in a unique, bright and open-plan office space. The Burt Group team ensured that the architectural charm of the historic structure was maintained while incorporating Chaotic Moon’s own sense of creative, colorful style.
Connecting these three buildings, which all date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s, into a cohesive and efficient manner presented a significant challenge for The Burt Group. The challenge actually presented opportunities for The Burt Group and the design team to showcase their innovation and expertise. Connecting the three buildings’ differing floor elevations allowed for a stunning cantilevered conference room overlooking the art department, and it doubles as an elegant centerpiece for the whole office.
Through the use of natural light, raw brick and original wood, as well as fantastic downtown views, The Burt Group balanced the historic with modern. The result is one of the most unique corporate headquarters in the region.
